Superb 7 day overland tour of Flores inc. summiting Mt Inerie
Fantastic tour!
Context: solo European female, 30s, travelling but not backpacking.
Paul is kind, knowledgeable, patient and professional. His communication skills in English are excellent as is his thorough knowledge of Flores. It is also abundantly clear he has an extensive network to draw from. Nothing is too much of a bother for him and he goes above and beyond to ensure his client is happy. I was apprehensive about “getting it wrong” and either being scammed or having a poor guide so did a lot of research into Paul’s company before committing - I’m so glad I went with him and not an alternative
Tour itself - very comprehensive showing multiple aspects of what Flores has to offer, and even the longer drives have stops as well as things to see which Paul explains all along. The experiences I specifically requested (including hiking up Mt Inerie) were artfully added in to the itinerary to ensure maximum gain - I opted for 7 days to get the most out of my time. Equally the mountain guide that Paul contracted was the best guide I’ve ever had.
I’m a vegetarian with some dietary intolerances and Paul managed to get places to cater for me (as much as one can in more remote areas) which I was hugely appreciative of. I sincerely doubt others would have put the level of effort in that Paul did to pull that off.
Thus, in summary, if you’re wavering about using Paul’s service or you’ve been tempted by a supposedly cheaper price - don’t be. The last thing you want is 4-8 days stuck with a sub-par guide who just doesn’t hit the mark wasting your time, money and holiday.
Thank you Paul for a really great week!

6-Days The best tour of Flores
The best tour of Flores
Tripadvisor review: Pauls Flores Overland tours
We highly recommend going on a tour with Paul! We had a wonderful time visiting Flores, its lush jungle, pristine waterfalls, well preserved traditional villages with their friendly people and interesting cultures.
Paul is an excellent guide that knows every corner of the island and - being a local himself - can tell you everything about Flores, its nature and people. He answered every question we had and we learned a lot during this trip.
The meals and accomodations organized by Paul were also fantastic. And we felt very much at ease on the road since Paul is also a skilled driver.
Anyone going to Komodo: don't miss out on Flores and a tour with Paul!

Tripadvisor review: Paul's Flores Tour Labuan Bajo to Ende Flores Land Tour inland by Car 6 Days
An unforgettable experience - my 7-day tour from Labuan Bajo to Ende with Paul, the absolute best tour guide in Flores!
Paul showed me his beautiful island, and I learned a lot about Flores and its inhabitants during those days. Paul has extensive knowledge of agriculture, flora, traditions, and customs. With him, you immerse yourself in this paradisiacal nature and island.
Everything was great, and there was enough private time to relax, which you also need to process all the impressions and adventures.
It was a lot of fun chatting and exchanging ideas with Paul.
If you have the opportunity to travel to Flores, be sure to book a tour with Paul!
Paul, thank you for these wonderful days, and I hope our paths will cross again 🙏.

Our wonderful 7-Day, 6-Night Tour with Paul’s Flores Overland Tour Company
We just spent a wonderful week with Paulus Akaput, who runs Paul’s Flores Overland Tours. Paul picked us up from the lovely Sudamala Resort on the beach in Labuan Bajo (sunsets beyond compare)
.....
We then climbed on foot for two hours through a beautiful bird-filled forest to the traditional village of Wai Rebo, nestled high in the hills of Central Manggarai Regency.
Bird songs were lovely, including frequent calls of an owl. The formal welcoming ceremony in the main traditional house at Wae Rebo was an especially nice experience.
.....
It was an excellent mixture of nature reserves, mountain climbing, cultural experiences, and beaching/snorkeling on a green and forested island that remains a largely unspoiled jewel in the Indonesian archipelago.

Tripadvisor review: Maumere to Labuan Bajo Flores Overland Tour 7 Days Car Trip
This tour was a great experience of our life.
The sites we visited were the most interesting places available on the island and with a lot of information from our guide Paul.
It was a safe ride with him but also adventurous when you are looking for more genuine areas in this world.

Pauls Flores Tour Labuan Bajo to Ende Flores Land Tour inland by Car 6 Days
I could not recommend this trip highly enough!! Please do yourself a favour and book with Paul.
He has a wealth of knowledge about Flores and is happy to share this with you.
He was also very attentive to any needs and generally making sure that you're okay along the way, which was no small detail as a solo female traveller. A
t no point on this trip did I feel unsafe and the trip was loads of fun.
Paul is very clearly well connected to people in Flores and does what he can to help the local communities as well as other guides with their clients.
You will see the beautiful landscapes of Flores as you drive along from destination to destination.
As we talked along the way, Paul would pick up on things that I was interested in like hiking which he did not hesitate to ask then if I wanted to hike Mount Inerie one morning as an add on.
This was a stunning addition to the trip (although not for the feint of heart. If doing mount Inerie please be prepared with good hiking shoes! Standard runners will give you a hell of a struggle on the way down) and an experience I'll never forget.
He was also happy to make some changes to the itinerary when booking such as hiking to Wae Rebo Village.
The trip was well balanced with time for chit-chat and time for comfortable silences to sit back and enjoy the view. Overall I have learnt so much, got some epic photos, and all round had a great time.
Thank you Paul

NOV 29, 2024 The Telegraph Flores in-depth
Pauls Flores Overland Tours (paulsfloresoverlandtours.com) is a Flores-based operator that knows the island well as all the guides and drivers are residents. Tours are highly customisable, but to really see the island, the 500-mile road journey from Labuan Bajo to Maumere is the top pick and includes a full array of island cultures, beaches, volcanoes and more
Where to go Flores
The rising star of Nusa Tenggara, the long series of islands starting with Lombok east of Bali, Flores is instantly famous for its fearsome native fauna, the Komodo dragon, the ill-tempered 10ft-long monitor lizard known for its voracious appetite and deadly bites. You can see them in action at the nearby national park, which, more placidly, is also renowned for its superb diving and wondrous white and even pink-sand beaches.
All of these delights can be enjoyed on day trips from Flores’s main town of Labuan Bajo, which has a long waterfront known for great restaurants, good nightlife and scarlet sunsets. And Labuan Bajo and the dragons are just the start on Flores: driving east across the island, you encounter lush rainforests, active volcanoes, countless (empty) beaches, captivating towns such as Ende and a panoply of cultures and religions.
Once you reach Maumere, you can catch a flight back to Labuan Bajo, Bali or elsewhere in Indonesia.

Flores Island Tour itinerary
Visit Liang Bua Cave, known for the discovery of the "Flores Hobbit," (Ruteng and Surroundings)
7:29 The hobbits are a species of early human, and they come from a island in Indonesia called Flores Island.
So the species is called Homo floresiensis. These guys are the descendants of Homo erectus.
Homo erectus got out onto Flores Island, got trapped there.
When you get trapped on an island, if you are a small bodied mammal like a small rodent or something, you tend to get larger.
If you're a larger bodied mammal, you tend to get smaller, which is called island dwarfism.
And so these little hobbits find themselves living in a backdrop of giant rats and tiny dwarf elephants called stegodon and being hunted by things like Komodo dragons.
We met Paul today, and he is such a gentle, kind, interesting, intelligent man.
His English is superb, so we're loving discussing Indonesian society, environment and culture and deepening our understanding and experience of this fascinating country.
He's also an excellent driver, which is just as well, as some of the roads have been shockingly twisty and potholed.
